A partnership capital account tracker that keeps owners in balance
This partnership capital account tracker keeps every owner’s numbers straight, year after year. When more than one person owns a business, disagreements usually start with money. For example: who put in what, who took out what, and whether it was fair. The tracker answers those questions before they become arguments.
Who it’s for
Partnerships and multi-member LLCs with two to six owners, along with the bookkeepers who serve them.
What the partnership capital account tracker helps you do
- Allocate profit or loss by each owner’s share.
- Track contributions, guaranteed payments, and distributions.
- Carry capital balances forward for five years.
- Spot owners who’ve received more or less than their share, before year-end.
What’s included
- Multi-Owner Capital Tracker (Excel): an owners tab, five years of capital accounts, and a distribution check across all years.
How it works
First, enter each owner’s name and percentages from your operating agreement. Next, each year, add net income, contributions, guaranteed payments, and distributions. Ending balances then carry forward on their own. Finally, the distribution check compares what each owner received with their fair share.
Why capital accounts matter
Capital accounts decide who gets what when an owner leaves or the business sells. Because of that, clean records protect every partner. The IRS covers partnership reporting in Publication 541, Partnerships. Planning an owner’s exit? See our Exit Readiness Kit.
