A fixed asset register for every business asset
This fixed asset register keeps every business asset, its depreciation, and its book value in one place. Equipment, vehicles, computers, and improvements are some of your biggest purchases. Yet they’re also some of the easiest to lose track of. As a result, deductions get missed and sales get reported wrong.
Who it’s for
Business owners and bookkeepers who want clean asset records year after year.
What the fixed asset register helps you do
- Track up to 200 assets with cost, date placed in service, and category.
- Estimate this year’s depreciation under MACRS, bonus, or Section 179.
- Record disposals and see the gain or loss on sale.
- Summarize totals by category for your tax preparer.
What’s included
- Fixed Asset & Depreciation Register (Excel): an asset list, a summary by category, and the IRS depreciation tables.
How it works
First, choose the tax year. Next, add each asset with its category, cost, and the date you started using it. Then pick a tax method. The register looks up the right IRS percentage for you. Finally, record any asset you sell, and the register shows the gain or loss.
Why asset records matter
Depreciation lowers your tax every year, but only if someone tracks it. In addition, sales of depreciated assets are often taxed. The IRS explains the rules in Publication 946, How to Depreciate Property. Deciding how to pay for the next purchase? Use our Lease vs. Buy Calculator.
